Details for the long awaited sophomore album from Porter Robinson, Worlds, was revealed to us via 10-hour long video on Youtube featuring very few hints on what is to be expected. What we now know is little more than just the title, accompanied in the video with humming synths, an emergency broadcast announcement, low-poly graphics, and【=◈︿◈=】.
Being one of the many EDM prodigies, Porter Robinson spurred a bidding war between labels when deciding who he wanted to release his new LP. After much debate, Robinson joined the ranks of artists like The Chemical Brothers, Fatboy Slim, and Deadmau5 in joining the team at Astralwerks. There’s no doubt Robinson is highly sought after artist, following the success of his 2011 EP Spitfire and his more recent release with Mat Zo, “Easy.”
“There are a lot of labels out there that want to have the next big EDM thing and that’s totally not what the album is about at all. It kind of lives more in the alternative space than in the dance world. I needed a team of people who had experience with both worlds.”
We didn’t have 10 hours to spend in order to work our way through the full video, but you’re more than welcome to try. Expect big things from Worlds, as Astralwerks GM Glenn Medlinger says to “expect genre-defying music, technology, visual art, forward-thinking social media integration and a bold touring strategy [from this project].”
