2014 has been a year of experimentation for new producer hotsix. His latest release, “future bass study no. 1” marks his first steps into house music, with exciting results (and several surprises!). This is truly one of the coolest, must unique tracks we’ve heard in a while and the entire RaveFaced team extremely excited to continue to watch how he progresses over the next few months.

“future bass study no. 1” opens with a retro-house feel, featuring brassy synth chords, organic percussion, and a simple melody, but from there the tension quickly builds. By the time the drop hits, the melody we met during the intro comes back, but this time … deeper. Bass heavy synths weave around a crisp house beat that you can’t help but dance to, with the punchy four-to-the-floor kick driving the action.
After a stripped down interlude, the tension builds for a second time, then releases full force into the second drop – no spoilers – but prepare to have your expectations flipped upside down. As soon as the
first kick drum slams, the familiar drop melody comes back, but explores a completely different vibe this time around.
With a non-descript title and minimalist presentation, hotsix keeps the focus on the music, with this tune feeling more like a experiment than a full blown commercial release. Clocking in at a mere 2 minutes and 42 seconds, “Bass Study” may leave you wanting more, but if “no. 1” is any indication, there should be more bass from hotsix right around the corner.
